<span style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic;">Grant K. Gibson has been
designing homes for more than 15 years. Originally from Los Angeles, the
39-year-old designer, who’s now based in San Francisco, takes pride in creating
living spaces that speak to the personality, preferences and experiences of his
clients. Now, he’s releasing his first book, </span><span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">The Curated Home</span><span style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic;">,
which takes readers inside his design process and educates them on how to
develop a timeless and curated interior that’ll fulfill their aesthetic tastes
for years to come. “It’s not only about practical tips — how to display objects
from travels, what to look for when making furniture purchases and the type of
paints that work best in a particular room — but also how to think like an
interior designer,” Gibson writes in the book’s introduction.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

In some corners of the decorating world, "modern" is considered a dirty word. There's a belief that<span> </span>modern rooms<span> </span>are cold and lack personality. But nothing could be further from the truth. Modern living rooms can be warm, inviting, and sometimes even downright cozy. While modern living rooms may lack some of the frills of their more embellished counterparts, they make up for it in their sleek sense of style.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
When redesigning a kitchen, put function first, says interior designer Jacqui Hargrove. “There’s no ideal kitchen shape,” she says. “Whether it’s a galley or U- or L-shaped, plan for the sink, fridge and cooktop to form a triangle, with no more than 6 feet between each for ease of movement.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
“The biggest mistake people make at the planning stage is not allowing for enough storage,” Jacqui says. “Use every nook and cranny. Put overhead cabinets right up to the ceiling, rather than leaving a gap on top that collects dust.” Consider deep drawers for easier access to pots and pans, and include enough storage for appliances that otherwise would clutter up countertops.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the best things about the Christmas season is driving or walking through neighborhoods and catching glimpses of festive Christmas trees in living room windows, decked out in lights, garlands, and ornaments. Decorating a Christmas tree is a time-honored tradition in many households, even though Christmas tree decorating as we know it now didn't gain popularity in America until the late 19th century. Early decorations were mostly homemade ornaments and brightly dyed popcorn garlands, but today's decorations include everything from souvenir ornaments and handmade kids' crafts to lots of twinkling lights.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A living room is a readily visible space of your home and also the most interesting one. Designs have evolved immensely over the past decades, but the fundamentals remain the same. Many of us get a lot of things wrong while making changes to their living room design. Experienced interior designer <b>Angelica Urbas</b> has some tips to help you design your dream living space. Let's have a look - </div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
<u><br />Fundamental Design Considerations Regarding Living Rooms</u></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Select a color scheme -</b> The color scheme of a living room creates particular moods. For instance, if you use shades of turquoise or mild blues, the temperature and mood is on the cooler side. Warm tan shades, oranges and reds glow with warmth, and also work well with dark furniture. It is important to decide between warm and cold base tones, and you can then build up on that. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Work with whites -</b> White is simple, elegant, bright and evergreen as far as interior design goes. Your living rooms can have white base colors, with contrasting shades of darks, greys or reds. There are a lot of possibilities if you are working with white. One should also keep in mind that whites or off-white shades are excellent light reflectors during the daytime. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Invest in wall finishes - </b>Wallpapers or uniform pattern paints can go well on your living room walls and bring a new level of vibrancy to it. Nowadays, there are a plethora of different special design choices that can add character to your living room. After all, it is a place of the house that’s most visible to outsiders and guests. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Explore templates - </b>Living room design templates are set variations of where everything should be. A template takes into consideration everything, from the furniture, plants, center tables, artwork, fireplaces, wall decor and more. You can consult with a reputed interior designer to get clarity regarding available templates. If you arrive upon something you like, they can implement it for you. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Go trendy with furniture - </b>The look and feel of furniture will make your living room attractive or clumsy. While conventional furniture choices might look bland within your creative interiors, you can go for more stylish and eye-catching choices. A simple search will give you resources to interesting modern, retro or even abstract furniture choices. Just make sure that they would fit well with the overall look of your living space. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Importance of a focal point - </b>Most designers agree upon the importance of a focal point within any living room space. This can be a painting or sculpture, a wall decor piece or even a stylish fireplace. Make sure it's anything than just a television or entertainment unit. A strong focal point can create strong character for your living space.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Never hoard a living space -</b> You might come across interesting pieces of furniture which you badly want within your living room. The first thing you should do before going ahead and purchasing any additional furniture or decorative, is assessing the existing interiors of your home. The last thing you want is to hoard different furniture or fittings, which look out of place. Also, a living room should feel somewhat spacious and that is another reason to not hoard it. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you are about to plan changes to your living room design, these tips can help you out. You can always get in touch with an interior design expert for better ideas. </div>

Let’s have a look.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
Simple Yet Effective Home Interior Design Tips</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1. Go creative with wallpaper -</b> Wallpapers do not have to be just your average ones that we tend to use generally. There are a lot of new choices available, which can change the look and feel of your walls. From animal prints to fresh florals, metallic accents, and more, there are a lot of options. A simple look online will help you get an idea about the various options available to you. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>2. Experiment with color -</b> Following designated color schemes can work well for you. However, you can get exciting results with combining contrasting colors. Furniture don’t have to match each other and don’t have to match the drapes. This is a great way of adding character to your interiors. There needs to be an amount of subtlety while choosing colors, as you do not want the thing to look completely out of place. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>3. Different themes for different rooms -</b> Your entire house does not need to follow a certain design style. Going with a consistent theme throughout all spaces is a good choice. But using different themes at various sections of your interiors can create dynamism. For instance, your living spaces can have a modern look, while your kitchen has a more organic style and different look. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Artwork can add life to dull spaces-</b> It is important to accentuate the overall look of your interiors. In fact, artwork like paintings and sculptures can transform even the most boring interiors into vibrant ones. However, there are some things to be mindful of. Do not go overboard with paintings, and do not hang them too high, or low. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Place more mirrors -</b> Mirrors are magical and can add so much more spaciousness to your homes. They are also ideal for hallways and bedrooms, due to their ability to reflect light beautifully. What’s great is that it just does not have to be a traditional rectangular or round mirror. There are a lot of designer mirror ideas available, and you can even get custom ones made for your home. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Do not compromise on space - </b>Hoarding furniture, artwork, and other textures can make a room lose space. As a result, living spaces or bedrooms can feel cramped up. Always remember that quality interior design is also about comfort and luxury. So before you take decisions, it is always important to give them a second thought. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: proxima-nova, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px;">I hate to break it to you, but designers don’t follow a secret rule book. There are no hard and fast laws governing what we do. We are creative types by nature and love to imagine, dream and explore, following our intuition. That said, there are some rough principles that guide us to ensure a great result every time. They are just tried and true things that work. And these aren’t tricks or skills that take years to master. Anyone can do them from day one. Consider this a foundation for developing your own quirky, creative, rule-breaking intuition.</span><br />

<b style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: proxima-nova, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px;">1. I get the logic. Why not arrive to walls with a fresh coat of paint? Of course you can do it this way, but in my opinion it’s not ideal. </span><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: proxima-nova, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px;" /><br style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: proxima-nova, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: proxima-nova, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px;">There are thousands of paint colours with various tints, tones and shades. And each one looks different from home to home, because light sources vary, meaning what looks good in your current home might not in your new one. You want the colour that best complements your upholstery, artwork, rug and whatever else. You can pick that colour only if your stuff is actually inside your home.</span><br />
